I can’t wait to never have to write about the 7th best conference again. Next year I will be able to go in depth regarding the best tournament in basketball. 5 straight days in the mecca that is MSG. But for now, I am stuck detailing the American Athletic Conference Tournament down in Fort Worth, Texas.

Right off the bat UConn at +1300 jumps out to me. I know it is a complete homer pick but UConn has beaten the top three seeds and is playing its best basketball of the year. They are facing last seeded Tulane on Thursday at 3pm. This game is a rematch of the two teams last regular season game where UConn just squeaked by Tulane 80-76. I expect this to be a close game but UConn’s skill will be too much for a scrappy Tulane team. The winner of this matchup advances to play 4th seeded Wichita State on Friday.
Houston is the favorite according to Vegas, and for good reason. They are the only team in the AAC who would be guaranteed a bid to the big dance if the season ended today. Honestly, I see little value in them at +200. They won’t have the sense of urgency that the rest of the conference will have as their resume is already strong enough.
The #1 seed, Cincinnati +350 is currently sitting on the 12 line in Joe Lunardi’s most recent Bracketology. They will likely need to win at least a game in the AAC tournament to ensure a bid as other bubble teams will be looking to make runs in their respective conference tournaments. Once again, I don’t see value in Cincy as they just don’t have as much to play for as other teams.
I don’t see a team with better value (aside from maybe UConn) then the Wichita State Shockers at +450. This shockers team is very well coached. Greg Marshall has proven year after year he knows how to get the most out of his teams. Lundardi currently has the Shockers in the first 4 out meaning an AAC tournament run is a must. They are slated to take on the winner of the UConn/Tulsa game. The last time UConn and Wichita State met it was an incredible 2ot thriller that saw the Shockers on top. I expect this game to be another battle with the winner going on to cut down the nets in Fort Worth. The Shockers have a balanced and deep attack that will have the legs to outhustle anyone in this 4-day tournament.
I will be throwing some sort of action on Wichita State and UConn so follow me on ActionNetwork app @jglashow for all my official plays.
Lastly, Noah and I will be in Vegas this weekend so expect tons of content regarding gambling, NCAABB, and much more.
